‘Best-In-Class’ Benefits for Start-up

ship wheel imageSituation: High technology start-up company requested that AMR design a “Best-In-Class” employee benefits program to mirror the benefits each executive had with their prior employer. In addition, the benefits offering had to be strong enough to attract and retain new talent to staff the enterprise. Emphasis was placed on designing a program that would be easy to communicate and administer.

Action: AMR reviewed the prior benefits of each executive and constructed a hypothetical program that would meet the needs of the team as well as be attractive to potential new hires. Census information was collected and marketed to numerous insurers that could provide health and welfare benefits plans to meet the objectives set forth, including Medical, Dental, Long Term Disability, Short Term Disability, Life, Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts, Employee Assistance Program and Vision Plan. Several proposals were reviewed with the management team and a comprehensive plan design was chosen and implemented. This plan allowed for on-line administration and electronic communication to employees.

Result: The new benefits package provided a level of benefits equal to and in some cases exceeding the prior coverage of each executive. The program was very successful in helping management recruit top talent to join the enterprise.
